PARTY FROCK

MA Fashion and Textile Design Project Proposal

We live in a world where fast fashion has become the norm. The catastrophic environmental and human impact of this is now well documented, but what about the impact on fashion itself?

As a passionate advocate for the art of dressmaking and fashion I believe fast fashion has devalued perceptions of clothing and created a disconnect between consumers and their relationship to the garments they wear.

In a world now accustomed to cheap, disposable fast fashion, this project asks the question;

Is it possible to change consumer habits by resurrecting values and practices of the past to challenge our perceptions of fashion, redefine our relationship with clothing and encourage a more sustainable approach to fashion consumption?

PARTY FROCK

Project Proposal by Sarah Gotheridge

An exploration into the artistry of fashion design and dressmaking.  Drawing on sensibilities of the past, this project will seek to educate and inspire, through the beauty of garment construction and design. It will attempt to engage interaction and stimulate conversation on values and longevity and encourage the concept of connection in order to promote a more sustainable approach to fashion consumption.
